Various social and support programs for seniors 55+ living in Kitsilano.
Various programming is available to seniors, including:
Senior Lunch: This program offers a warm and welcoming afternoon for community members to come together. Participants can enjoy an affordable, delicious meal, engaging conversation, light exercise, and a variety of after-lunch activities each week. Activities may include educational presentations, group activities, or live entertainment. The program is drop-in, with no registration required. Cost: $7 per person

Java Social: Java Social is a guided conversation program designed to foster connection and meaningful dialogue. Each week, participants explore one of 52 rotating topics throughout the year. The program provides opportunities to expand social circles, gain new perspectives, and reduce social isolation. Registration is required. There is no cost to attend.

Friendship Group: This program provides a warm, reflective, and supportive space for older adults to connect through meaningful conversations and shared experiences. Participants can enjoy coffee, tea, and light snacks while gathering for friendly discussions and social connections. There is no cost to attend.

Monthly Matainne Movie: Join friends and neighbours for an afternoon at the movies. The Seniors Resource Centre hosts film screenings in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Participants can enjoy a featured film along with popcorn and light snacks. The program is free of charge, and drop-in is welcome.

Game Club: This program invites participants to gather for an afternoon of fun and games in a relaxed and social setting. A variety of games are available, including Cribbage, Scrabble, and cards, or participants may bring their own favorites to share. The program encourages friendly competition, mental stimulation, and social connection. Free of charge; drop-in participation is welcome.

Art and Crafts/ Seniors Art: This program offers fun and creative in-person art classes designed for older adults (55+). No prior art experience is required. Participants only need curiosity and a willingness to explore their creativity. Registration is required, and a program fee applies.

Over the Rainbow Sing-Along: A fun and welcoming weekly drop-in program for seniors to sing favourite songs, enjoy music in a relaxed atmosphere, and connect with others in the community. No singing experience required—just bring enthusiasm and a love for music. Free of charge; drop-in participation is welcome.

Gentle Chair Yoga: A one-hour class rooted in Hatha Yoga that combines gentle movements, breathing techniques, and guided meditation. Designed to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and posture while reducing stress and enhancing overall well-being. No registration required; drop in for $7.

Meditation Circle: A weekly guided meditation program that encourages mindfulness and relaxation. Participants can drop in to experience calm and clarity. Free of charge.

Information and Resources: Volunteer specialists provide free, confidential, one-on-one assistance to individuals seeking information and access to a variety of services. Support is available in English, Farsi, Portuguese, and Spanish. Free of charge; drop-in participation is welcome.

The Living Room: A community space open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, offering complimentary coffee and tea while supplies last. Everyone is welcome to drop in and relax.

The Living Room Program: A no-questions-asked program providing free groceries to community members facing food insecurity. Groceries include fresh fruits, vegetables, dry goods, meat, dairy, and bread. Distribution takes place from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM through a lottery system. Participants can stop by the KNH front desk to enter. Please bring your own bags.

Seniors’ Programs Advisory Committee: A monthly gathering where seniors can share stories, provide input, and help shape programming. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. All seniors’ perspectives are welcomed and valued.

Programs indicated with '$' have a modest price associated with them, ranging up to $30. A variety of free and low-cost programs are offered. Membership is required to access free programs. Fees are $10 per year for individuals or $20 per year for families. Subsidies are available for those facing financial hardship.
